Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority crews will halt work on the Islamorada Transmission Main Replacement Project and suspend the rolling lane closure on U.S. 1, near Mile Marker 82, from this weekend through Tuesday, July 4.
A rolling lane closure means that sections of U. S. 1 are closed in 1,000 to 1,500 feet increments while crews install the new transmission main, however a northbound and southbound lane will always remain open. While traveling through the work zone, motorists should stay vigilant and abide by the 35 mph speed limit.
As of June 22, 8,138 feet of the new main has been installed. The Islamorada Transmission Main Replacement Project is estimated to be completed by February 2025; however, traffic impacts will lessen by March 2024. Work will halt for major holidays and events.
